Our activities
We are one of the larger gas producers in the Dutch sector of the North Sea and have been active in the region since the early 1970s. We operate 15 offshore facilities, including three gas treatment facilities and three subsea installations. Our projects span the entire exploration and production value chain, from exploration to decommissioning.
The Dutch North Sea has the potential to become a new energy hub, given its existing infrastructure connecting offshore and onshore. We are developing CO₂ storage capacity in depleted gas fields connected to the Aramis system.
Our production
The Dutch North Sea is considered a mature area for natural gas, and production from our assets in this region has been declining in recent years. Innovative solutions to boost production from existing wells, as well as more efficient operating methods to reduce operational costs, have helped extend the period during which our reserves can be produced economically.
Our operating mode
Thanks to Full Intervention Mode (FIM), all our offshore platforms operate in intervention mode, meaning they are only manned during maintenance campaigns. TotalEnergies EP Nederland was the first affiliate in the Company to implement this concept.
We continue to build on the good initiatives already in place by preparing regular maintenance activities onshore and carrying them out during seasonal campaigns. The extended use of a Walk-to-Work vessel will further reduce the number of helicopter flights, increase efficiency, and lower costs.
We have demonstrated that higher efficiency can go hand in hand with safety, as evidenced by our excellent safety track record. Since platforms used for CO₂ storage will also operate in an unmanned mode, our Aramis stores will greatly benefit from the experience we have gained through Full Intervention Mode.
L7 decommissioning
Once our gas production comes to an end, and as the final stage of the exploration and production value chain, it is our responsibility to decommission our installations safely while maximizing the recycling of materials.
After producing gas for more than 40 years, the L7 field reached the end of its economic life and production ceased. The installations in this block were subsequently placed in a so-called "lighthouse mode" while preparations began for their full decommissioning. The project was sanctioned in 2022, and the decommissioning works commenced in 2023.
